FOREWORD

As the NASA Center responsible for preparing and launching space missions, the John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) is placing increasing emphasis on its advanced technology development program. To focus our effort, we have created a Spaceport Technology Center concept with a range of technology developments that will assist us to reduce the cost of access to space and enable greater commercial success of our space launch industry. Our technology development encompasses the efforts of the entire KSC team, consisting of Government and contractor personnel, working in partnership with academic institutions and commercial industry. This edition of the KSC Research and Technology 1999 Annual report covers the efforts of these contributors to the KSC advanced technology development program, as well as out technology transfer activities.
